Future of PACS in Healthcare: Introduction, Components and Uses

PACS stands for Picture Archiving and communication system is a digital imaging technology which provides convenient access, management, distribution, economical storage and retrieval to images from multiple modalities. It allows healthcare organisations to capture, share, view and images externally or internally as per their convenience. Picture Archiving and communication system reduces the cost of maintaining images on films and allows medical practices to save on film processing equipment, film storage space, supplies and personnel. These generally eliminate the need to manually file, transport or retrieve film jackets because all electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally.
