How Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the future of medicine?

With the successful implementation of AI in various sectors now, AI has marked its powerful presence in the healthcare industry. It is not like AI technology is breaking the record but has started the journey to set new records in the medical industry. According to the  WHO survey, there are still 400 million people who don’t even get essential healthcare support and services. Although AI can reduce this number, the only hurdle is its implementation is the need for huge financial support.

As per researchers, day by day artificial intelligence brings a boom in the healthcare industry. In our previous articles, we explain How artificial intelligence changes healthcare, what is artificial intelligence, Hospital Information system, EHR vs EMR benefits of emr etc. In this article, we are going to explain the different ways of Artificial intelligence to change the aspects of medicine.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Latest innovations in artificial intelligence bring a boom in the medicine & medical industry.  AI is capable of learning, applying logic and grabbing new opportunities to eliminate complex tasks in the medical sector through its dedicated algorithms. Different experts in the relevant field feed these intelligent programs. A significant amount of data is collected from the doctors, researchers, and scientists so that AI can choose the efficient and reliable alternative.

Machine learning programs are basically the algorithms developed by AI and computer which are used to make predictions based on data. These AI models help to make a decision on the right path with the power of machine learning. There are numerous courses available which allows to gain expertise in this field, for example, the Machine Learning Course exposes the concept of time series, supervision, reinforcement etc. Through these courses, the user will be able to resolve the real-life problems based on healthcare, medicines, etc.

Different ways of AI to change the aspects of medicine

Well, we all are very curious to know how ai prove to be an asset in the field of medicine. We have listed various ways how it going to change the medical industry. Have a look over it.

(i) Reduction in mortality rate

With the help of ai technology, death rates can be reduced in hospitals by prioritizing the need. AI is also capable of suggesting treatment to every single person based on the data collected from those diseases. It can play a significant role in this field. As the field got more advanced and more effective, it can lead to better evaluation and analyzation.

(ii) Faster diagnosis

In some places around the world, AI is already implemented as a healthcare solution driving huge success for the sector. For example-  IBM’s Watson computer which can diagnose the patients with leukemia in a fraction of seconds. It can also suggest the patient about home treatment or need a visit to the hospital as per the person’s condition by processing past collected information.

(iii) Advance robots

Advanced robots in medical field are available for providing positive effects on the patients. Such as  Therapeutic animal robot, cuddling with them can reduce the possibility of high blood pressure, anxiety, etc. It also helps in increasing the social interaction which improves the quality of life. (iv) Discovering new medicine

The variety of application in other sector and their huge success rate signifies that AI, Machine learning can be used to its highest potential. It shows AI is also capable of performing R&D based on the biological traits. For example, Discovery of next-generation sequencing, this type of research is unsupervised, based more on the predictions.

(v) Reduction in errors

Fatigueness brought error in human nature while in the case of AI, there is no probability of fatigue or error. Although it can work with more precision and faster rate. According to research, error costs around $19.5 billion.

(vi) Assistance during surgery

Surgery is the most complicated part of the medical field. It requires years of practice; any mistake can lead to the death of a patient. With proper AI assistance, the surgeon performs robotic surgery & may not face critical condition. AI has the ability to reduce the stress on the doctor as well as on the patient.

(vii) Virtual presence

The technology of virtual reality is used with the help of AI only. According to this technology, a robot is present at the patient’s house which can work as efficiently as a doctor. As the robot is controlled by the doctor, who is sitting far from the patient’s place. With this innovation in technology, the patient need not leave the house and able to interact with the doctor as if they were present.

(viii) Advancement in radiology

The very first MRI or magnetic resonance imaging was taken in 1977. New algorithms update the  MRI scans and other details by providing imagery on top of the body which helps the doctor to analyze and specify the disease in quick time.

(ix) Clinical research

AI with its technologies such as ML, big data analytics etc., can identify the candidates for trial on the basis of genetic and any other factors as per the specification of research. It can also provide the cost-effective and quick solutions.

ML can also be used for safety purpose. For example- By observing the changes in biological behavior which may result in any type of harm or death of the person. There is a number of ML applications available which can reduce inefficiency, errors in data etc. while finding the best sample.

(x) Prediction for the contagious outbreak

The diseases which occur suddenly affecting a great number of victims are considered to be an outbreak. For example- Ebola. AI and ML are now applied for predictions of such diseases which occur anytime, anywhere. AI helps in collecting data such as temperature, rainfall, etc. through historical, geographical information from the satellites and other sources such as social media. Thus, precautions can be taken without any delay. For example- ProMED mail is used for monitoring and recording reports on the outbreak.

Closure Words:

Although it is very important to remember AI may have brought revolution but it is not that simple like plugging in and operating on it. It requires heaps of information which are taken from a longer duration and variable resources. Through these data, the processes will become more comprehensive, more cost-effective and accurate. For example- Cogito is an application which tracks the behavior of the patient. It is an application which is invented by Cogito Corporation, who is working hand-in-hand with AI. It covers voice recognition and customer service interaction.

AI is an advanced technology, but its implementation in the most effective ways depend on us. Although, the logic which a human can apply, that machine won’t be able to cover ever. For instance, a specialist use ruler to find if the lesion is cancerous but AI use images to say that. So, it may take time for AI to reach that level. There’s a long way to cover in the field of medicine. If healthcare and AI collaborate in positive aspects, then the collaboration has the ability to overcome many barriers on the road to success
