In this new era of emerging technology, medical robots improve the quality of patient care causes a paradigm shift in healthcare. These robots aren’t new to the healthcare system, remember the da Vinci surgical system that conducts more than 20,000 surgeries & brought a boom in this field. In this advanced world, everything is going to be Hi-tech will stimulate the adoption of these robots to improve the quality of life for the elderly & disabled.
Medical robots really attract the interest of all stakeholders of the healthcare industry. In our previous article, we explain Artificial intelligence in healthcare, PACS,HL7, Radiology, virtual reality in healthcare, smart sensors changes healthcare, benefits of hospital information system, laboratory information system etc in detail. In this article, we are going to explain medical robots in healthcare, types etc.
Medical Robots in Healthcare:
It feels great when a machine takes care of your health. These robots have completely raised the efficiency & speed of healthcare services. ”Healthcare robotics 2015-2020” report was released by the Robotics business review shows the crucial information of the robotics industry. In the market, different types of medical robots are came depending upon the care they gave like some patient require 24×7 care or some not. The three main areas of robotic health are:
- Direct Patient care robots: For this type of care various types of robots used are prosthetics (used for replacing lost limbs), surgical robots (used for performing clinical procedures), exoskeletons ( used for bionic extensions of self) etc.
- Home healthcare robots: With the help of remote patient monitoring or telemedicine technology, any physician can treat people anywhere who live at remote locations. With the blend of this technology, robotic telepresence solutions came into existence that addresses the ageing population with robotic assistance.
- Indirect Patient care robots: For this type of care various types of robots used are delivery robots (deliver medical goods throughout a hospital), pharmacy robots (streamlining automation robots for inventory), disinfection robots (interact with those people who suffer from infectious diseases such as HAIs) etc.
Ways of using Medical Robots in Medicine:
Today’s everything is going to be digitised so why not healthcare IT field. For this medical robots came in front & being used for cutting edge work in medicine. Either small or large robots are manufactured for treating tumours, thin lips etc varies from manufacturers to manufacturers. Take a look how robots are used in medicine in amazing ways.
(i) Restore Limbs or other body parts:
Our each & every body part is important, without a hand, leg etc we are not able to lead a normal life. With the help of technology, medical robots are being used to serve the place of lost body parts or limbs. Researchers are trying to use robots to create a human heart or other organs. Well, the cost of these parts is not so much high or low for those who get to wear robotic leg or arm. To replace lost eyesight, bionic contact lenses are also being developed. As the technology advances, artificial intelligence & robots are being used in medicine to help patients to experience less pain & to recover very quickly.
(ii) Perform Surgeries:
This is one of the interesting ways which allows robots to perform surgeries & greatly reduces the risk involved in surgery. It is an advanced form of small incision surgery where surgeons use a computer-controlled robot to assist them in certain surgical procedures. To perform surgical tasks & to operate in very tight spaces in the body, surgeons prefers robotic technology. Da Vinci robot is one of the examples of a surgical robot that has contributed to a huge increase in the use of robot-assisted surgery in healthcare.
(iii) Rehabilitate Patients:
As we know, after any serious injury or accident patients have to undergo physical therapy & rehabilitation centre to regain their mobility. Researchers say that stroke rehabilitation can restore hand function. Medical robots are used to treat patients with muscular atrophy & another disease to regain strength & function. Robotic technology enables stroke survivors to self-motivate & control the movement of the weakened muscles.
